David has written and directed several short film projects.
David’s directing work so far has explored personal subjects, played within genres, and tackled darker themes, always with a healthy dose of humour.
His debut as a writer/director RED ASH premiered at British Shorts in Berlin, was selected in competition for the BAFTA-qualifying Manchester Film Festival, screened exclusively at a literary event alongside author Bernard MacLaverty, and has been included in the Olympic Sports Museum archives in Barcelona.
David’s second short SWAN SONGS premiered at the BAFTA-qualifying Glasgow Short Film Festival, was selected in competition for 3 BIFA-qualifying festivals and won 7 awards including Best Director at both the Fisheye Film Festival and Leith Short Film Festival.
He also directed the narrative music videos GLAMOUR MAGICK and STRAWBERRY MOON for indie legends Arab Strap, as well as WIND for Hamburg-based Songraes starring David Hayman, which won Best Drama at the Europe Music Video Awards and was noted in Scottish Parliament. All three were selected as a Video of the Month by Promo News.
David was commissioned by the BBC to co-write and develop a limited drama series Meàrlach/Thieves and was funded by Screen Scotland’s Little Pictures scheme for his latest short film HOT FAVOURITES which will premiere at BAFTA-qualifying Bolton International Film Festival.
